The Plan for the Week
Fundraiser and Celebration
• What is Tucson’s International Babywearing Week’s Main Celebration and Fundraiser?
This event is the big finale to two weeks of celebration of babywearing! Babywearing is the act of keeping your baby close to you using a sling or carrier. During this year’s International Babywearing Week, we are planning a variety of events (full listing can be viewed on our Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/BWITucson/events). For the main event, to be held at the Tucson campus of the ASU School of Social Work Courtyard, 340 N Commerce Park Loop, on October 8 from 4-7 pm, we are planning family friendly fun, prizes, entertainment, food, and so much more!
• When is the event?
We are celebrating on Saturday, October 8 from 4-7 pm.
• Who is invited?
This event is for families! You can be brand-new to the idea of babywearing, be in the very beginning stages of babywearing, be a babywearing pro, be expecting a baby, be a parent of five with various ages, supporting someone else who has kids, etc. We also welcome people who just love talking about babywearing! And, YES, babies, toddlers, and children are more than welcome!
• What is the cost?
There is no cost to attend as the event is free and open to the public! We’ll have raffle tickets available for sale and some of our community partners will be selling their goods/services, but attending the event itself is free.
• Do I need to RSVP?
Yes, please do so through this Facebook event. A RSVP is kindly requested so that we have a rough idea of how many people to expect, but it is not required (as we understand family schedules!).
• Will there be entertainment?
Yes! Mr. Nature will be entertaining families with his silly songs and stories. We are also planning for mud pies, coloring, and other kid-friendly fun!
• Will there be prizes?
Yes! This is our non-profit chapter’s biggest fundraiser of the year, so while the event is free to attend, we do hope that you decide to participate in our fundraising raffle. We have been so blessed by many local and national sponsors. Details about our raffle prizes can be found here. ***Please note that the BWI of Tucson Raffle Prizes are a “must be present to win” style drawing***
• Will there be food?
Yes! Babywearers love to eat! There will be a caterer with a variety of food options (vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free too!) available for purchase. In addition, Wilson’s Kettle Corn will be available to serve some yummy popcorn and lemonade. There may even be a sweet cold treat (those details are coming soon!)
• Who are the community partners?
Our community partners believe in babywearing and our supporting us by being present at our event by hosting a booth. Community partners include the following organizations: Alice Rae Shop, Body Central Physical Therapy, Hike it Baby Tucson, It Works!, Little Bird Nesting Company, LuLaRoe Ashley Danielle, LuLaRoe – Blaire Johnson, Mary Kay with Tammy Vavala, Mindful Birth Tucson, Ocotillo Creations, Paige Dr Sears Certified Health Coach / Plexus Ambassador, Pinch & Dash LLC, Pionic Pizza, Please Read One More – Usborne Books & More, Rodan+Fields Skincare – Melanie Johnston, Sew Hip, Thirty-One Gifts, Tinkergarten, Top Knot Media, Traditional Starter Bakery, Tucson Waldorf School, Wilson’s Kettle Corn, and Wisdom Within – Empowering Childbirth Preparation.
